“Good morning,” I said to my assistant when he came to work. I was just about to have my breakfast so I told him I’d be right back. Something about the day felt nice. Maybe it was the leftover club sandwich I was about to eat or the fact that it was a bright and sunny day outside. Either way, I decided to enjoy breakfast while I watched an interesting TV show. I sat down and just when I was about to press play a call came in.

I stretched my neck to see who was calling and noticed it was one of our big clients. I smiled and answered the call. She wanted us to deliver some products for her. I gladly took the order and forwarded it to my assistant while sipping on my drink. I was about to put the phone down when I saw a notification about a payment my business had to make that was long overdue. Yikes! I grabbed my tablet and made an online transfer immediately. The transfer failed twice but the third time it went through. By this time my sandwich had gone cold and so was my beverage. So much for enjoying my breakfast with a short film. I took a deep sigh and ate it up anyway.

My business day had started and was moving fast with or without me. After the transfer went through my assistant alerted me about some issues in our packaging. There were stains all over a batch of branded shopping bags we had ordered. We didn’t notice this at first because we buy packaging in bulk and didn’t check every single one. “This is bad,” I said and grabbed my phone to text my supplier. He didn’t reply immediately and I wanted to call but I took pictures of the damaged bags and sent them to him instead. “That shirt looks creased. Please iron it before we deliver ok?” I said, changing the topic when I saw a rather crumpled shirt. My assistant nodded and sent it to our workshop to do the needful.

I decided to lie down for a while to relieve my aching back and as I lay there something happened. The fan in my room started to slow down. I looked over my shoulder at the power switch on the wall and it confirmed that the lights had gone out. I looked outside and realized that a sunny day was not going to work in my favor this time around. It was just a matter of minutes before the room would start getting hot. Then I remembered the ironing. My assistant was less than halfway done when the lights went off. We now had a half-pressed shirt. “Wow” was all I could say. Sometimes I feel like I’m beginning to normalize days like this. So yea, we move.
