Oranges are not my favourite fruit. I like them but they are often too hit and miss for me to take them seriously. Maybe oranges in other countries are better but Ghanaian oranges are definitely temperamental when it comes to sweetness. You just never know which orange will be sweet. Did I also mention that our oranges are never really the colour orange? Yes, we have green, yellow, and sometimes brown oranges. The irony is divine.
One day I was feeling lucky. We had some oranges that had been sitting in the fridge for a while. They were a gift from my sister and brother-in-law, straight from their tree. I picked one up and saw that it was nice and cold so I decided to add orange juice to my breakfast. I picked up 3 oranges and juiced them nicely. My Ikea glass was completely full so I took a sip so it won’t spill. Then I gasped and took another sip just to be sure. It was really good! Just the right amount of sweetness. I absolutely enjoyed my breakfast and right now I’m looking forward to drinking the other oranges in the fridge.
This brings me back to the saying, don’t judge a book by its cover. Or don’t close your doors to something because you have had a few bad experiences in the past. It got me thinking about trying something I usually would not do in my business. The trick is to prepare yourself for any outcome but also have hope that something good could happen. Who knows, maybe your sweet orange juice is just a step away.
