Several weeks ago I found myself in a rather dark place full of anxiety. Inflation and uncertainty were two things I saw everywhere I turned. The prices of everything were just going up in any way, shape, and form. Paying so much money for basic things like food and water was frustrating but the biggest blow was the cost of supplies for my clothing business. Utility bills were also increased! This was causing a lot of anxiety. I was stressed and overwhelmed.

One day I found myself wondering if my business would survive these economic times especially because we recently hired a new employee. I was totally stressed and overwhelmed as well. So far based on my numbers things were not so bad. We were still making our usual monthly income target. The big problem now was our expenses! Even though we were working harder our bottom line kept shrinking!

The constant thinking was beginning to affect my health. I found myself worrying a lot, eating very little, not sleeping well, and spending a lot of my time on distractions on my phone. You could say I had anxiety. I skipped too many meals because I didn’t really have an appetite or I preferred to just watch funny videos on my phone.

Then something happened. I got sick and had to go to the hospital. My journey to recovery brought me back to my senses. The truth of how I was living stared at me right in the face and I knew I had to make changes. So this is what I have started to do and I’m so much better.

  1. I eat a healthy and delicious meal every morning
  2. I eat a fruit every day
  3. Do more physical activities to avoid using my phone
  4. Think more about my positives than my negatives
  5. Take more breaks
  6. I also socialize more

I just slowly realized that worrying was not going to solve my problems. I do sometimes worry but the important thing to do is to switch off the worrying quickly. These days I tend to also think about how to solve my problems and this gives me more energy. I can’t imagine the number of people with anxiety right now, especially small business owners. I’ve come to realize that taking things one day at a time in making changes is the best way to go.
